A message from the Avation Museum of Alberta
It is with a heavy heart that we address you today regarding the tragic fire that consumed Hangar 11, a cherished historic landmark, on April 22, 2024. As many of you know, Hangar 11 held profound historical significance as a former WW2 hangar.
The loss of such a prominent piece of our city’s history is undeniably devastating. It serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of our historical buildings and the urgent need for enhanced preservation efforts. With each loss, a piece of our collective heritage fades away, leaving future generations with fewer tangible connections to our past.
This event should serve as a call for us all to redouble our efforts in cherishing and safeguarding our remaining historical treasures. Every structure holds within it a story worth preserving, and it is our responsibility to ensure that these narratives endure for generations to come.
